State Student Auditions

Regional MFMC State Student Auditions: The next student auditions will be held January 2008.

Eligibility:

Student must be between the ages of 16 through 25 (birthday in the year 2008). The application and $15 entry fee payable to MFMC must be received by the MFMC Scholarship Chairperson, Elizabeth Raihala, by December 30, 2007.

Classifications:

  1. Piano
  2. Organ
  3. Man’s Voice
  4. Woman’s Voice
  5. Brass
  6. Strings
  7. Woodwinds
  8. Percussion

Process:
Auditions will be conducted via CD. CD’s must be mailed to the correct Classifications Chairperson on or before Jan. 26, 2008. A repertoire list and an MFMC Certification Form must be included with the CD. Students will be notified by mail and/or e-mail of the audition results after Feb. 28, 2008.

Awards:
1st and 2nd Place Awards are available in each Classification where winners are declared. First Place awards are $500.00. Second Place awards are $400.00.

General Information:
Each entrant must:

  • Mail an official application and the $15.00 entry fee by December 30, 2007 to Elizabeth Raihala, MFMC Scholarship Chair (see address below).
    • Arrange for an accompanist, if necessary, and assume expense.
    • Record a CD with one selection each from three of the following categories: Baroque, Classical, Romantic, or Contemporary. One of the selections must be written by an American Composer.
    • Adhere to time limits for the recording. The CD may contain no more than 15 minutes of music.
    • Include a list of repertoire and the approximate length of each selection with the CD.
    • Have the witness present at the recording session sign the Certification Form. This form must be mailed with the CD.
    • Mail the CD to the correct Classification Chairperson on or before Jan.26, 2008 (postmark deadline to qualify).
  • All selections must be memorized, with the exception of Organ, Brass, Woodwinds, and Percussion.
  • General musicianship and apparent potential are points of adjudication.
  • No winner will be declared in a classification unless the highest standards of performance are met.
  • The decision of the judge(s) is final.
