Old Business

NFMC Fall Board Session Update was given by Mary Strasser.   2006 Fall Session Planning Committee met with the National President in March.  The components for the upcoming National Board Meeting to be held in Minnesota have been outlined.  She urged members to share ideas and opinions.  By fall, every club will be asked to perform certain duties.  The meeting is scheduled for Aug. 1-7, 2006, at Hotel Soffitel in Bloomington.  Apple Valley is planning to make colorful Kleenex holders for the packets given to all participants.  Betty Olson showed a sample.  Mary urged clubs to let her know about items they wish to donate so she can keep track of items to avoid duplications.  Plans are for 300 convention bags filled with little gift items.

MFMC Constitution Bylaws

Revision Committee – Betty Olson, Chair

Betty Olson reported that the committee met in March.  The revisions should be ready for approval by fall or the spring meeting at the latest.  Changes include:  election of state officers coincide with national elections, constitution amended at any meeting by a simple majority vote, revision of attendance requirements at state meetings.

Annual Membership of Inspiration Point Fine Arts Colony.

Opera workshops/training for young musicians. The decision was made to continue MFMC support at the patron level--$500.00.

New Business

NFMC Biennial Convention—Austin TX, June 20 – 27, 2005.

Betty Olson, Mary Strasser, Nadine Berg and Cheryl Schmidt will be attending.  A special memorial will be held for club members who have passed away during the past year.  Our club will remember Merilyn Jax.

North Central Region Federation Days—July 14-16, 2005

(Includes MN, NE, IA, WI, ND, SD, IL)

Karen Erickson will attend in Cheryl’s absence.  This group sponsors our joint project Junior Composers Institute.

Half Notes Editor

Cheryl proposed that we hire Louise Lundin as the Half Notes Editor.  The executive committee had approved a search for someone to fill this position, so she was hired on a trial basis for this past issue.  She produced the spring issue in a timely fashion, but delivery was delayed by the post office. Kathy Wilson moved that MFMC engage Louise Lundin as editor of Half Notes on a year by year basis (just in case a new member wanted to take over the editor duties).  Karen Erickson seconded the motion.  The motion passed.

Web Site

John Byers is currently our web site manager. A discussion will be held with Louise Lundin to consider being our MFMC communications manager and oversee both the web site and Half Notes.  Cheryl Schmidt will pursue this option.

Advertising

Advertising requests come from various music publications between meetings, such as MMTA newsletter or a booth at the MMTA Convention.  Rennae Petersen made a motion that MFMC establish a line item of $500 to be used at the discretion of the president for these types of advertisements in consultation with the treasurer.  Nadine Berg seconded the motion. The motion passed.

National Music Week-- May 1-8, 2005.

Encourage clubs to celebrate.  An essay contest is held in conjunction and students can win a monetary prize.  Check the national web site for details.  Consider including an article about the essay contest in the next Half Notes.

Festivals – Rennae Petersen, Chair

Rennae Petersen reported that this year ran smoothly with electronic systems.  Two sites are just finishing reports.  The number of mail and phone calls about problems has decreased.  This summer a list of mistakes will be compiled to see if a further reduction in mistakes can be achieved.  Everyone did reports on the computer and a large number submitted the reports electronically as well.  The auditors need stipends/reimbursement for ink jet cartridges as they need to print these reports.

Festival Cup – Susan Hoolihan, Chair (absent)

The following information was submitted:

Cup price increase:

1st year cup was $10.00 increased to $10.86
2nd cup was $14.35 increased to $15.20
3rd cup was $20.50 increased to $21.40

The MFMC state treasury will cover this increase for the 2006 festivals, given the reserves in our state treasury, and will monitor this ability every year.  Currently, the state is collecting an additional $1.00 to help defray costs of the 2006 National Fall Board Session.  This additional cost will end after the session in August 2006.
